Probate Division
Probate Court Services is a specialized unit that handles investigations related to conservatorships, emancipation of a minor, freedom from parental control. guardianships, marriage permission for minors, and stepparent adoptions.
Conservatorships
Appointment of a person to oversee the finances and/or the care of an older adult or a developmentally disabled adult who cannot take care of him-/herself.
Emancipation of a Minor
Freeing a child from the control of a parent and giving the child some rights as an adult
Freedom from Parental Custody and Control
A process by which a parents rights can be terminated so an adoption proceeding can occur.
Guardianships
Appointment of a person to oversee the finances and/or the care of a child whose parents are unable to care of the child.
Marriage Permission for Minors
Anyone under 18 wishing to marry must have the approval of your parents and a court order.
Step-Parent Adoptions
A legal process in which one legal parent has custody of a minor and the stepmother or stepfather is seeking to become the legal parent of the child.
